The Buffalo Nickel was minted from 1913 to 1938. Designed by James Earl Fraser, he employed three different Native Americans as models. It's said the bison was modeled after "Black Diamond", a bison at the New York Central Park Zoo

The Buffalo Nickel weighs 5 grams, is comprised of .750 copper and .250 nickel. They were minted in Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco.
